CONSIDERATIONS FOR IMPLEMENTING CMOS PROCESSORS.

The options for implementing digital systems, and processors in particular, in CMOS technology are discussed. The emphasis is on speed, but other aspects such as area and power consumption are also considered. The advantages of single-ended cascode voltage switch (SCVS) circuits are emphasized. Two quite different SCVS modules, a data flow unit and a control macro, are evaluated. Some problems with these circuits are discussed. Some thoughts of multichip realization of large-scale circuits are included.
