Bowtie photonic crystal with deep subwavelength mode confinement in a dielectric material

We report the design and experimental characterization of deep subwavelength optical modes (Vm∼10-3, (λ/nsi)3) in high quality factor dielectric photonic crystals (Q∼3×104). Our approach offers a low-loss alternative to metals for achieving extreme light concentration.
