Carlos Raoni is a Research Scientist in the AI-assisted decision-making group at IBM Research Brazil. He holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Informatics Department of PUC-Rio and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the UFRN university. Before IBM, he worked as Software Engineer at Petrobras (2008-2012), developing applications for the downstream sector of the company.
At IBM Research, he has been working since December 2012 on developing research projects focused on decision-making under uncertainty. Some of the highlight projects include Bluecap (effective resource allocation for portfolios of capital projects), GRA (Geological Risk Assessment support module of Geoscience Advisor, partnership with GALP), Cognitive Geologist Recommender Module (recommendation of exploration activities to accelerate uncertainty reduction of conceptual geological models, partnership with GPN), and KaRA (Knowledge-augmented Risk Assessment Framework).
We're addressing the environmental and human health impact of PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ by accelerating the discovery of sustainable replacements and improved capture materials.
We're developing technological solutions to assist subject matter experts with their scientific workflows by enabling the Human-AI co-creation process.
