One often hears the claim that, as the size of VLSI designs increases, fault simulation will become impractical. The author advocates the opposite position that simulation will remain a practical approach through the foreseeable future. Further, simulation has certain advantages over analytic techniques. Some potential problems are identified which must be addressed if simulation is to remain practical.
