The emerging model of subscription computing, along with its various components, infrastructure requirements and technical challenges was described. Subscription computing was defined as a package of computer and networking hardware, system and selected applications software, and support services necessary to build and maintain a secure computing platform. It relieved its users of activities related to selection, procurement, installation and maintenance of basic computing infrastructures. It also incorporated the ability to scale and integrate provided services, using improvements in technology to provide superior service to users and gave better business results to service providers.
