On the nature of phase transitions and nomenclature

The spectrum of knowledge on phase transitions in dielectric crystals has become very wide and diversified. The nomenclature used so far is critically reviewed. Assignment of the various phases should be based on dominant driving mechanisms. A scheme of classification is suggested. © 1971.
