We define traditional computer conferencing as a subset of the spectrum of applications of computer-mediated communications. The network application manager is a system that provides the functions needed to support many communications applications. The ultimate goal of our effort is to make possible the development of computer applications that can be used throughout the network. The GRAND computer conferencing system is presented that is based on IBM's VNET system, a store-and-forward network. Appropriate interfaces are included to fit GRAND into other operating systems and communication networks so it could run on and communicate with other systems.
