Microdisc lasers coupled to silicon waveguides as versatile on-chip optical components for light generation, conversion and detection

Microdisc lasers (MDLs) are an attractive option for on-chip laser sources, all-optical wavelength converters and resonant photo detectors. We present measurement data of static and dynamic operation for these three applications. Ways to improve the device performance are discussed. © 2011 IEEE.
