The effect of the electric field at an electrode/electrolyte interface on the structural parameters evaluated from the EXAFS measurements is considered. The apparent near neighbor distance evaluated by EXAFS is shifted. For an electric field of 5 X 107V/cm, a near neighbor distance of 2.500 Å will appear shorter or larger by 0.012 Å depending on the direction of the electric field. The shift is larger for longer distances, 0.018 Å at 3.000 Å. © 1989, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
