Flying height modulation estimation from pseudo-random readback signal in disk drives

A study was performed on flying height modulation (FHM) estimation from pseudo-random readback signal in disk drives. FHM induced read or write errors were not easily traced because of a lack of a simple way to determine FHM. The relationship between the amplitude of readback signal of a sinusoidally recorded signal and the magnetic spacing was also studied.
