Evidence for organized small-scale structure in fully developed turbulence

The intermittent fine structure of fully developed turbulence is studied by means of a visualization experiment. Characteristic locally ordered flow patterns, tentatively identified as layered vortex sheets, are observed. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
