We describe the CdTeCdMnTe superlattice, the first and the most extensively studied heterostructure with a diluted magnetic semiconductor. The structures are fabricated by molecular beam epitaxy and evaluated by x-ray diffraction. Optical measurements illustrate the subband formation and the carrier-spin interactions, and magnetic measurements demonstrate the effect of dimensionality on the magnetic phase transition. Recent progress in conductivity control provides opportunities for transport experiments. © 1989.
