The response of a rotating flexible magnetic disk interacting with a baseplate and a read/write head is analyzed. The disk deflection due to the base plate as well as the foundation stiffness are determined. Using that as a reference configuration, the effect of the read/write head is included by coupling the disk deflection to the air bearing equation at the disk/head interface. The results are pressure and spacing contours in the interface region and disk deflection throughout the entire disk. © 1980 by ASME.
