A visual representation for the shapes of flexible mesogenic molecules

The shapes of most mesogenic molecules vary as a result of internal motions whose magnitude changes discontinuously at the transition to the isotropic phase. Here we propose a visual representation for such flexible molecules which shows their average chemical structure together with the extent of the fluctuations away from this. © 1988 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
