A novel ring expansion of 1-carboethoxy-1,1-trimethylene-3-diazo-2-propanone

The title compound undergoes an unusual thermal cyclobutyl to cyclopentyl rearrangement initiated by the intramolecular reaction of a ketene moiety produced in situ with the pendant functionality. © 1986.
